Hello and welcome back to the princess peach bus on the Avon DC trip. Today was technically our second day of the trip, but really our first real day. We woke up at 6 am and headed down to breakfast at 6:45, packed up and ready to head out at 7:45 for our day! We started with the MLK memorial, Thomas Jefferson memorial, and Washington monument. We walked around the tidal basin and got to take pictures with the cherry blossoms! I enjoyed learning about the symbolism and architecture of these memorials and found it really interesting. After exploring the tidal basin area, we took our group Capitol photo after lining up by height, then headed over to the L’enfant plaza for lunch. I had a bomb chicken pesto bowl at Brown Bag, then we packed back up on the bus and headed to the national mall! First, we visited the national archives and saw the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, and Constitution, which was SO COOL. Then, we walked over to the Museum of American History and saw the dresses that the First Ladies wore! We had a 2:45pm check in, then headed over to explore the National Gallery of Art. I really enjoyed this, the architecture of the building was gorgeous and even though their impressionist exhibit was closed for remodeling, I still got to see my Monet! After the gallery, we went to the Museum of Natural History where we saw the Lights Out space and energy exhibit, the Hope Diamond and stones exhibit, and the dinosaur fossils. There was even a whole section on human impact on the environment and preserving our planet which of course I loved! We met at 5 to depart for the White House. Apparently president Joe Biden was supposed to be arriving to the White House via helicopter at 6pm but he never showed. Our last stop before dinner was the Law Enforcement Memorial, then we ate at Bertucci’s Italian restaurant and headed back to hotel around 10, room check at 10:45 then lights out! Night night and see you tomorrow!
