Maddie’s European Travel Diaries: Days 1-2

Buenas noches! Welcome to our adventures in Europe. Our trip started with a 3:00am wakeup on Friday morning. After packing up and eating a quick breakfast, we drove to the airport and checked in at 4:15am. Going through security was BUSY but only took us about 45 minutes, after which we wandered through the airport and eventually ended up at our gate. We boarded the plane and took off to Miami at 6:15am. After a quick flight that we napped on, we arrived in Miami for our 8 hour layover. We spent the time chilling, getting coffee, riding the tram back and forth, and eating lunch! Then we boarded our international flight to Barcelona! I was pleasantly surprised with the gluten free meal on the way there and the breakfast when we got there. Still plane food but better than expected. That flight was SO LONG, we tried to sleep but it was hard to stay asleep and it was very quaint. Not a bad experience though. At 7am Saturday morning, we arrived in Barcelona! We met our tour guide, Mario, at the airport and boarded a bus to our hotel. They didn’t have our rooms ready when we got there, which was to be expected, but we did have a really amazing breakfast. After breakfast, Mario led us on a walking tour of Las Ramblas, the main street with a bunch of shops and vendors. At the end of the street, we reached the Mediterranean Sea for the first time! After the tour, we had a couple free hours to explore the market and bought smoothies and empanadas. Then, we met back at the hotel for showers and afternoon siestas, before getting ready for our dinner. The restaurant and wait staff were amazing. They brought out 5-6 different appetizers for us to try including hummus a tapas, bread, and seasoned potatoes to name a few, as well as our main entree and a cheesecake for dessert! We took a quick stroll back to the hotel, showered again, and headed to bed, prepared for a busy Easter Sunday!
